With only a few exceptions, the process involved in recycling plastic waste has made economic viability simply unattainable... until now. At Refinity, we plan to commercialize a game-changing technology that converts minimally-sorted mixed plastic waste into drop-in, raw material feedstocks... at yield levels expected to not only enable broad economic viability, but also allow global scalability and true circularity.

Technology Overview

We have access to patented Fluidized Bed Process Technology that converts mixed plastic waste to hydrocarbon liquids and gases depending on the operating conditions selected. The process is proven at bench and pilot scales and operates at moderate temperatures and very short residence times. Waste plastics are uniformly and rapidly heated, allowing high yield of plastic waste to desired drop-in chemical products.

Fluidized Bed Technology
Enables Key Differentiation

Enables very fast and efficient heat transfer, minimizing undesired byproducts such as char and leading to yields higher than slow pyrolysis processes.

Regularly deployed at global scale across the refining and petrochemical industries, so we believe scale-up risk is low.

Can use minimally sorted and minimally processed mixed plastic waste, allowing us to access lower cost, widely available wastes, that we believe other recyclers can’t use today.

Can be tuned to produce different drop-in chemical products, ranging from waxes to sustainable naphtha to light olefins, so we have the flexibility to adjust to market needs and integrate with established petrochemical infrastructure.

Bill Grieco

Chief Executive Officer

Bill is an entrepreneur, innovator, and business leader who has spent the last 25 years leading R&D and commercialization organizations in the chemical, pharmaceutical, clean tech, and specialty materials industries. Prior to Innventure, Bill was CEO of The RAPID Manufacturing Institute®, a public-private partnership created to promote modular process intensification and transform manufacturing in the process industries. Bill also serves on the Advisory Boards for the School of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Georgia Tech and the FSEC Energy Research Center at the University of Central Florida. He holds chemical engineering degrees – a PhD and Master’s degree from M.I.T., and a Bachelor’s degree from Georgia Tech.

Adam Javan

Chief Operating Officer

Adam is a seasoned executive with over 25 years of running businesses at blue-chip companies as well as startups. Prior to Innventure, Adam joined Benson Hill, a food-tech company, pre-series C in 2018 as Chief Strategy Officer. Adam led the evolution, strategy, and business development to a successful commercialization event in 2021.  Adam brings exceptional analytical, strategic, and creative thinking combined with a keen sense of pragmatism to identify techno-economically viable opportunities in complex market dynamics. Adam has an MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.

Ignasi Palou-Rivera

Chief Technology Officer

Ignasi is a leader in technology development and commercialization with over 25 years' experience in process development and scale-up, and techno-economic and sustainability assessment of new technologies in the chemicals and fuels industries. Prior to joining Refinity, Ignasi was the Executive Director and CTO of the RAPID Manufacturing Institute®, where he led the institute's successful funding renewal with a new focus on process technologies for sustainability and circularity in the process industries. Ignasi also teaches at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago as an Adjunct Professor. He has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an Engineer's degree from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Barcelona Tech).
